Last Tuesday, I was going for an evening walk with my cousin when I saw a gorgeous little black kitten in the distance—still and perched along the sidewalk. I started hissing for it to come closer. Its lack of movement intrigued me, and even though we were still fairly far away, my obnoxious excitement took over. "A possible friend for Pickles back home," I thought.

I had to get a closer look. As I finally made it to the slick, black figure—after a subtle jog—a wave of tumultuous laughter from my cousin washed over me.

I couldn't believe my eyes. There it was, right in front of me: a big, burnt chunk of wood that had fallen from the Oak Tree now spread above us. I didn't know whether to break down in utter embarrassment or burst out laughing. But one thing I did know—I'd be rescheduling my optometrist appointment to an earlier date, preferably yesterday. Perception is a crazy thing, isn't it? And when intertwined with our purest delusion, the world really does become our oyster. Because if all old branches became little kittens, the world would be a much happier (and cuter) place!
